Gewurztraminer
Gewurztraminer
Gewürztraminer is an aromatic white grape most famously associated with Alsace, though it is also grown in cooler regions across Central Europe and select New World sites. It is a low-to-moderate–vigour vine that produces small, compact clusters of pink-skinned berries, ripening early yet requiring warm, dry conditions to fully develop its characteristic aromatics. The variety prefers well-drained soils—especially limestone, clay, and gravel—and can be sensitive to excessive moisture or very cold winters. Gewürztraminer wines range from pale straw to copper-tinged gold, with naturally low to moderate acidity and a highly expressive bouquet of lychee, rose, spice, and tropical fruit. Styles vary from dry and perfume-driven to richly off-dry or sweet, often with notable texture and intensity.
