Chardonnay is one of the world’s most influential white grape varieties, originating in Burgundy and now grown across a wide range of climates. It is a moderately vigorous vine that produces compact clusters of thin-skinned berries and ripens reliably, adapting well to both cool and warm regions. The variety prefers well-drained soils and balanced growing conditions, showing particular affinity for limestone and clay.
