Picpoul Blanc

Picpoul Blanc is an ancient Mediterranean white grape most closely associated with the Languedoc, especially the Picpoul de Pinet appellation near the Étang de Thau. The vine exhibits moderate vigor, with medium-sized berries and relatively loose clusters that help it manage heat and airflow in its typically warm, coastal environment. It thrives in well-drained limestone or sandy soils that reflect sunlight and preserve freshness, and it performs best in warm, breezy sites where maritime influences help maintain acidity. Although tolerant of heat, Picpoul can be sensitive to drought stress and requires careful canopy management to balance ripeness and aromatic expression.

Picpoul Blanc is prized for its naturally high acidity, producing bright, saline-driven wines with citrus, green apple, and floral notes, often accompanied by a subtle herbal edge. The wines are typically light to medium in body yet texturally engaging, offering a crisp, refreshing profile that makes them ideal for seafood pairings. While most expressions are youthful and straightforward, Picpoul’s acidity and mineral tension can also support more structured, terroir-expressive styles in select sites.
