Petit Verdot produces small, compact clusters of small, thick-skinned berries that contribute to deep color and robust tannins. The vine exhibits moderate vigor but is naturally low yielding, often requiring careful pruning and yield management to achieve optimal concentration. Its very late ripening makes it susceptible to autumn rains in cooler regions, and it thrives in warm, well-drained soils where it can achieve full phenolic ripeness.
